Water Eaton is an area located in the southern part of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, within the civil parish of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford. The area was originally an ancient Buckinghamshire village, which became part of Milton Keynes in 1967. Water Eaton is situated south of Fenny Stratford and has been virtually absorbed by the Lakes Estate, a Greater London Council-built London overspill district, by the time Milton Keynes was designated.
The Lakes Estate was constructed in the 1960s as part of the GLC’s plan to resettle people from war-damaged areas in London to better quality housing in the suburbs. It was considered a model working-class estate based on the Radburn design concept, which was pioneered in Radburn, New Jersey. The development was one of several built in the Bletchley and Fenny Stratford areas during the 1950s and 1960s. The Lakes Estate was designed with modern architecture and was considered to be among the best of its kind.
