Netherfield is a modern housing development situated on the southern side of Standing Way (A421, H8), directly across from the University Hospital. It features a small shopping centre that houses various stores. The development was primarily created by Dixon, Jones, Gold and Cross in 1971, following a modernist design. It consists of multiple elongated parallel rows of terraced houses, arranged in accordance with the natural landform to maintain a level roofline. The properties positioned near the peak of the slopes have a single level, whereas those located at the base have three stories. The use of prefabricated construction materials was partly due to a scarcity of bricks in the UK at that time. Over time, the Milton Keynes Council has gradually refurbished the estate and incorporating pitched roofs when funding is available.
