At the time of its establishment in 1967, Great Linford was one of several North Buckinghamshire villages that were incorporated into the newly designated area of Milton Keynes.

The exact origins of the name “Linford” remain unknown as there are no recorded accounts. However, the first reference to the village can be traced back to 944 when King Edmund granted land to Aelfheah, a thegn, with the freedom to transfer ownership as desired. Linford is also mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.

During the early 16th century, Dr. Richard Napier served as the rector of Great Linford parish and gained widespread recognition for his skills as a medical practitioner, astrologer, and healer of souls. He was highly regarded among the upper class and even provided care for the Earl of Sunderland in 1629.
