Bradwell is a district in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire that has both ancient and modern roots. It is also the name of a modern civil parish that is part of the City of Milton Keynes. The village has a rich history and is located adjacent to Bradwell Abbey, which was a Benedictine priory founded in 1155 and dissolved around 1540. Although the abbey and its surrounding areas were a separate ecclesiastical parish, they were located near the village.
The name Bradwell is derived from an Old English word and means “broad spring.” The village was recorded as Bradewelle in the Domesday Book of 1086, a survey commissioned by William the Conqueror to determine the value of land and property in England after his conquest.
